The Old Royal George Inn
About This Spot
Stepping into The Old Royal George Inn feels like being gently welcomed into a cherished community home nestled in the heart of Morton-on-Swale. This is the kind of place where the pace slows just enough to savor a quiet moment by the fire or linger over a well-poured pint. The atmosphere balances the easy warmth of a countryside pub with an inviting calm that spills softly into the adjoining bed and breakfast chalets, tucked away from the road’s hum.
Here, conviviality rises naturally from genuine smiles and heartfelt hellos, while the subtle murmur of conversations blends with the occasional clink of glasses. It’s a spot where locals and travelers alike feel seen and at ease — whether settling in for an evening meal or seeking refuge after a day exploring the nearby dales.
The experience is deeply tied to the kitchen’s comforting rhythms. Plates arrive layered with thoughtful care: a roast dinner whose tender lamb or beef feels like a Sunday afternoon gesture of kindness, or a hearty steak pie that invites sharing across the table. Vegetables come tender and simply seasoned, sometimes presented in their own little bowls, adding a gentle touch that honors individual tastes without fuss. The freshness of the sea whispers through offerings like steamed sea bass or smoked salmon, balancing the pub’s rich, homey fare.
Retreating to one of the back chalets, guests find a sanctuary quietly distanced from the pub’s livelier spaces. These rooms carry the same sense of ease, with clean, spacious interiors and little outdoor nooks where one can sit with a morning cup of tea or watch the evening light soften over the village.
The Old Royal George Inn is a quietly spirited stop—grounded in the rhythms of place and people. Its strength lies in the simple comforts carefully tended by attentive hands and the feeling that whenever you return, there will be a warm corner waiting just for you.

Fantastic little gem . There are 3 chalets at the rear of the pub away from the noise of the road and pub , so very quiet. Very clean, and spacious, we had the family room , bed comfortable , lovely shower & bathroom, a room with a cot wardrobe, and Chester drawers , and out door space with table & chairs which was a lovely bonus. Land lady is very friendly , kind & welcoming. Pub & restaurant superb, food delicious . Breakfast very tasty. Would recommend a stay here !!
